Tarzan and the Lion Man detail

This book was first published on 9/1/1934 by Burroughs, Inc and states “First Edition” on the copyright page. Burroughs varied from using the usual blue boards and instead used a light gray cloth with black lettering. As shown, both the front cover and spine have a drawing of two heads facing away from each other inside a red circle.

There exists a later variant that is identical to the first printing except it is an 1/8” narrower and was supposedly printed in 1935. It states “Second Edition” on the copyright page. Both printings have five interior illustrations by J. Allen St. John. The dustjacket of the first edition has the same picture of the two heads that is on the cover and spine.

Burroughs, Inc. reprinted this book again in 1940 and 1948. The 1940 book cover is red and has blue lettering. The 1948 printings have tan covers with blue lettering.
