First Edition Identifiers

Pirates of Venus detail

Burroughs, Inc. printed this book first on Feb. 15, 1934 which evidently sold out as they reprinted the book shortly thereafter. It states “First Edition” on the copyright page.

The second printing is identical to the first printing other than the words “First Edition” have been omitted from the copyright page. The book is bound in the typical pebbled blue cloth found on almost all Burroughs, Inc. publications. J. Allen St. John illustrated the dust jacket and 5 interior drawings.

Burroughs, Inc. reprinted this book again in 1940 and 1948. The 1940 book cover is red and has blue lettering. This 1948 printing has tan covers with dark red lettering.

The book below is the first edition as shown in the photo on the right.
