ERB Firsts Title
For collectors or resellers, determining which ERB books are truly a first edition is a challenge for a couple reasons. Almost all ERB first editions from 1914 until the 1930's lack any statement of "First Edition" as such, listing only the copyright date. Subsequent printings by A.L. Burt and Grosset & Dunlap and others also listed only the copyright date without any indication of the actual year published. So there exists much confusion for the novice collector as to which books really are first editions. Grosset & Dunlap collectors now have a new book available which identifies all pre-1942 printings. This purpose of this website is to educate new collectors of Edgar Rice Burroughs First Edition books by providing photo's, descriptions and pricing information* of every book he wrote. Not only is collecting Edgar Rice Burroughs first edition books fun, they're also a good investment that through the years have continued to increase in price.

All of the photos of books and dust jackets shown with a clover are from my personal collection (to include a few without clovers). All other photos are from prior books owned, other ERB websites, or Ebay auctions.

If you don't already have an ERB collector's book, I highly recommend Robert B. Zeuschner's book, "Edgar Rice Burroughs - The Exhaustive Scholar's and Collector's Descriptive Bibliography". It is an excellent resource for determing first editions and subsequent reprints. For the serious collector of first editions or subsequent reprints, this book is a must!

* ERBfirsts.com began a 3 year project on Jan 01, 2002. Its goal was to assign an order of rarity of all the ERB first edition books; or how frequent each book sells at auction. It's purpose was to help a collector decide how often a book comes up for sale and how much to bid on it. The project yielded other benefits such as dust jacket sales, condition, and prices. With over 2500 sales data most books can be accurately valued. This project concluded on December 31, 2005; as such pricing information listed here is becoming more and more dated as time goes by. However it should still serve to give an approximation of the books value. To use this feature to value your book, click on the title of the book and note the "Average Condition" and "Modal" and "Average" sales price. Rate the condition of your book and if it is in much better condition, it's value will fall somewhere between the "Average" and "High" price listed, and, if it's condition is inferior, its value will fall between the "Average" and "Low" price. Some books with rare dust jackets may not have sufficient sales information to make a reasonable estimate.
